Israel Seeks India’s Support for Hostage Release Amid Gaza Conflict

Israel’s ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, expressed gratitude for India’s support and willingness to help secure the release of over 200 individuals held hostage by Hamas. He noted that if there is a way to get global powers to put pressure on Hamas, Israel would welcome such efforts. Gilon mentioned that Hamas commanders are residing in places like Istanbul and Qatar, living a life of luxury. He acknowledged that India has a special place in the world and suggested that if India can speak to individuals who have influence over Hamas, Israel would appreciate it.

Regarding humanitarian aid to Gaza, Israel has agreed to allow a limited amount of aid to enter Gaza, as announced by US President Joe Biden during his visit to Israel. This decision comes after diplomatic efforts with Egypt. However, Israel remains cautious, as there are concerns that aid deliveries could potentially be used to smuggle weapons. Egypt, which controls the border with Gaza, is also concerned about the possibility of a large influx of refugees.

Additionally, Gilon claimed that Hamas is pressuring the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to prevent further actions against the militants. He also mentioned that the explosion at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza, resulting in casualties, was attributed to a rocket from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. While Hamas blamed an Israeli airstrike, Israel and the US maintained that it was caused by a failed rocket launch by Gaza-based Islamist militants, who denied responsibility.
